IYC reaffirms position on resource control, fiscal federalism

By Perez Brisibe

UGHELLI – THE Eric Omare led-Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, yesterday reaffirmed its position for restructuring, stressing that the  Ijaw people will continue the fight for the restructuring of Nigeria to ensure resource control and fiscal federalism by any means possible.

IYC in a statement by Omare also stated that    Senate and House of Representatives rejection of the bill seeking to devolve powers to the states of the federation cannot stop the quest for restructuring of Nigeria.

He said: “We call on other Nigerians desirous of restructuring especially the people of the South East, Middle Belt, South West and all Northern minorities not to be discouraged by the National Assembly’s rejection of restructuring.

“While we condemn in the strongest terms the anti-people voting pattern of members of the national assembly,  we state that the members of the national assembly were elected by the people of Nigeria to make laws for the peace and good governance of the country, hence their anti-restructuring position cannot stand the test of time because it is anti-people.”
