Lagos—A middle-aged man, who has been feeding on his faeces while chained for 18 months in an apartment at 18 Damigoro Street, Mushin area of Lagos, was, yesterday, released by policemen attached to Area ‘D’ Command, Mushin.
Acting on intelligence, policemen, led by Area ‘D’ Commander, Assistant Commi-ssioner Akinbayo Olasoji, stormed the building yesterday afternoon, where the victim, identified as Bolaji Sholola, was found in a room that was emitting offensive stench.
On closer observation, he was discovered to have been feeding on his faeces.
Upon inquiry, Sholola’s 85-year-old grandmother told policemen that the victim was mentally deranged, adding that he was chained so he will not go astray; to make him available for treatment as well as prevent him from attacking residents.
However, Vanguard learned that the victim gave accurate response to questions posed to him by policemen.
The man claimed that he is 50 years old, married and a trained medical doctor.
ACP Olasoji, immediately directed that he should be unchained and, thereafter, gave him a change of raiment before he was transferred to a psychiatric home in Yaba, to ascertain his mental stability.
Crowd thronged the house yesterday, giving different versions of the incident.
