Rivers APC congresses: Grievances’ll be looked into —Appeal panel

By Jimitota Onoyume & Davies Iheamnachor

PORT HARCOURT—  A three-man Appeal Committee of the All Progressives Congresses, APC, has assured members of the party dissatisfied with the  last local government congress of the party in  Rivers State that their grievances would be communicated to the appropriate authority of the party for action.

Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammed, who spoke for the committee, yesterday, at the state secretariat of the party in Port Harcourt, noted that they had taken time to listen to the appeals of the aggrieved members of the party.

The committee also has Alhaji Yar Adua Abdulazis as member. The chairman of the committee, Kola Omonitukpo, was absent.

Lawmakers, other leaders call for fresh congress

Meantime, the member representing Ikwerre/Emohua constituency in the House of Representatives, Elder Chidi Wihioka, his counterpart, representing Tai, Oyigbo, Eleme federal constituency , Dr Barry Mkpigi, and former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice under former governor Chibuike Amaechi, Mr Wogu Boms, have called for the outright cancellation of the result over what they described as fake congresses, insisting that no congress was held last Saturday in any ward of the party in the 23 local government areas of the state.

“Our position is that there was no congress, no election held in any part of the state. Whatever result was released as coming from the congress should be cancelled and a fresh congress slated,” Wihioka said.
