BENIN CITY— TRADITIONAL rulers from Edo Central senatorial district will this weekend hold a meeting with a view to persuading the leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, to prevail on the members of the Edo State House of Assembly to return the speakership to Edo Central senatorial district.
The Onojie of Opoji and 1st Vice Chairman, Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, His Royal Highness Ehidiamen Aidonojie 1, who disclosed this to journalists, yesterday, said after the meeting, the traditional rulers intends to meet with the state caucus leaders of the APC and immediate past governor of the state, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, to assist them speak to the new leadership of the House led by Speaker Kabiri Adjoto, to balance the political tripod in the state.
According to HRH Aidonojie 1, “We are going to meet this weekend Esan traditional rulers to deliberate on the matter and after that we intend to meet with Oshiomhole, who had in the past helped Esan people to retain the speakership after Victor Edoror was removed.”
Faulting the earlier meeting of some traditional rulers from Edo North and Central on the issue, HRH Aidonojie 1, said that it was not the duty of traditional rulers to dabble into the politics of the state House of Assembly, adding that what should have been done was to appeal to the immediate past governor of the state, Oshiomhole “who is the APC state caucus leader to talk to them.”
“I am a traditional ruler from Esanland, so nobody can love Esanland more than me. I have spoken to my colleague traditional rulers from Esan and I was informed that only seven of them were at that meeting and none of them knew the agenda before they went there.”
