UGHELLI – A married woman and resident of Eruemukohwarien in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, attempted to kill herself because her husband allegedly slapped her for spanking their son.

Sources at the community told Vanguard Monday that the woman, Stella Oghenerohwo, 33, drank a popular insecticide known as sniper and stabbed herself multiple times on the stomach because her husband, Prince Sylvester Oghenerohwo allegedly slapped her for physically reprimanding their son for an undisclosed offence he was said to have committed.

Confirming the incident when contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, said: “The matter was reported at the Ughelli ‘A’ Division at about 3p.m on Saturday.

“The husband, Prince Sylvester Oghenerohwo was said to have slapped her over a matter involving her beating of their son for going on an errand for him. Angered by this, she drank sniper and used broken bottle to stab herself severally on the stomach.”

Though the police image maker didn’t state if the woman would be prosecuted on charges of attempted suicide, he said: “She is receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital while investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
