OPC cautions FG over divisive actions

By Abdulwahab Abdulah

lagos—The Federal Government  has been cautioned against actions that could heighten agitation for the division of the country, particularly with appointments considered favourable to a section of the country.

President and founder of Oodua Peoples’ Congress, OPC, Dr. Fredrick Fasheun, issued the warning yesterday, while noting that sectional agitations will persist except President Muhammadu Buhari addresses the issues.

Fasehun, who also aligned himself with calls for restructuring to unify the country, made case for the adoption of the outcome of the 2014 national conference.

“OPC hereby joins other Nigerians to demand the restructuring of the country. We cannot continue to do things the same way and expect different results. Time has come for the government to face the fact that Nigerians have drawn the road-maps for the country’s unity and survival through the 2014 national conference.

“Its reports provides the sine qua non, the irreducible minimum requirement, for the country’s peaceful coexistence; and its provisions should be implemented, for the country’s peaceful coexistence; and its provisions should be implemented as a matter of urgency,’’ he said.

He called on President Buhari to reverse the recently announced appointment of the directors of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, because out of the 15 appointments, 10, which constitutes 67 percent come from the Hausa-Fulani north.

He also commented on the pronouncement of the government on the country’s exit of recession, noting what is important is for Nigerians to get affordable staple foods
