•Arrest five suspect

Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team have botched plans by militants to raid five banks in Lekki and Ajah areas of Lagos state.
Consequently, five suspected members of the gang who had gone to survey the terrain, Tuesday, were arrested. Among them was a private guard attached to one of the targeted banks.
The security man in one of the targeted banks , was alleged to have initiated the deal to the militants.
The targeted banks included the Lekki branch of Zenith and FCMB banks and FCMB, GTB and Keystone banks in Ajah.
During interrogation, the arrested suspects, as gathered, said they were sent by their leader and successor of former overall leader of Militants , General Ossy who was killed recently by security operatives during a gun duel. They gave his name as America and leader of the kidnap gang that masterminded last week’s abduction of six Senior Senior School students at Lagos Model College, Igbonla, Epe.
The suspects also disclosed that arrange-ment had been concluded by their boss, America ,to have a twin operation at the banks on June 1st 2017. Two days before the operation ,four of them were reportedly sent from the creeks to arrange for vehicles that would convey them to and fro the river bank to the venue of operation , only to be arrested by the team.
One of them, Powei, said that he was among those who carried out the kidnap operation at Yewa Isawo area of Ikorodu, where four policemen and an Army Captain were killed .
Police sources hinted that “ All Suspects arrested confessed to the planned bank robberies. They said the banks were chosen because of their proximity to the river banks.
“They are cooperating with detectives in the Investigation. Serious efforts to arrest the gang leader, America, and other gang members , as well as rescue the abducted school children are in progress.”
