EDO State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has pledged more support for the State’s female football club, Edo Queens for their exploits in the ongoing national female league.
Addressing the team on behalf of the governor, deputy governor Comrade Philip Shaibu, reiterated the state government’s commitment to using sports as a tool for taking the teeming unemployed youths in the state out of the streets.
He averred that Edo Queens would be given equal treatment by the state government with their male counterparts in Insurance Football Club, stressing that the era of discrimination between male and female players is over.
He charge the team to go all out to do the state proud by winning the forthcoming female FA Cup in as he commended the three Edo Queens players who have been invited to the female U-20 national team.
“I want to tell you that Mr. Governor, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki is very happy with the players of Edo Queens. We are aware of your exploits in the Nigerian female league, I’m here to tell you that Edo state government will continue to do the necessary things that will make you excel.The governor has also asked me to tell you that you will begin to enjoy equal level of support from the state with your male counterparts in Insurance Football Club. There will be no discrimination, everything due to you as a state team will be given to you as long as you are in the colours of Edo state.”
“I want to urge you to go out there and do the state proud by wining all your matches, both home and away. I’m very happy with your managers and the chairman of the team, they are doing a good job.
I want to appreciate the girls that have just been invited to the female U-20 national team, they have proved that they have what it takes to make Edo proud. I want to encourage others to up their game, because we will like a situation where Edo state will produce majority of players in the national camp like it used to be in the past,” he stressed.
