As part of the efforts to curb the abuse of elders, Centre For Happy People, CHEF, has called for the inclusion of the study of old age, “gerontology”, in school curriculum.
Speaking during the 2017 World Elderly Abuse Awareness Day, WEAAD, in Lagos, CHEP Coordinator, Mrs. Lilian Jiringho, said a person with the knowledge of gerontology will make plans for his or her own life course and needs while communities and lawmakers can make necessary public policy choices.
“We are campaigning to promote education on gerontology in Nigeria. Because of the lack of awareness of the course, we have visited schools to do career awareness on gerontology, to mark WEAAD”, she added.
