OLEH—NATIONAL Union of Oleh Students, NUOS, has decried the decay in the country’s education system, calling on the Federal Government to initiate workable policies that would take the sector to global standards.
Speaking at Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, during an education summit organised by the union for public and private secondary and primary schools in the area, its President, Josiah Omenuwoma, blamed the rot in the education system in the country on poor funding by the government, ineffective implementation of policies and carefree attitude of parents to the academic well-being of their children.
Stressing the need for parents to give their children quality education with a view to preparing them for future challenges, he said: “The aim of the Oleh education summit is to promote and improve the educational standard in Oleh community because education is the key to development.
“We are also calling on all Oleh sons and daughters to invest in education to ensure that the Oleh educational trust fund is functional.”
The Oleh community executive should see it as a task and make education a top priority and also provide scholarship scheme for children within the community from primary schools to tertiary institutions in order for us to have more graduates in various fields of endeavours and the academia in the community.”
