Femi Fani-Kayode Responds to N500m Suit Filed Against Him By Amaechi

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Culture and Tourism, has said that his lawyers would respond appropriately to the lawsuit reportedly filed by Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transport.

The minister, on Monday, reportedly issued a seven-day ultimatum to Fani-Kayode and Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Governor of Ekiti, to offer a public apology and pay him N1.25 billion, for linking him with the $43 million, found in Lagos by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the counsel to Amaechi, in separate letters to Fani-Kayode and Olayinka, warned that there would be stiff legal actions, should they fail to adhere to his demand over the alleged defamation.Fani-Kayode, however, in a statement signed by Jude Ndukwe, his special adviser, insisted he had not been served any court papers.”We have been inundated with calls concerning a threat by Rotimi Amaechi to sue Chief Fani-Kayode for defamation over the 43 million USD issue. We are not losing any sleep over this matter.”We have not received any court processes or letters from Amaechi but when we do so our lawyers will respond vigorously and appropriately. Thank you,”he said.

Amaechi Slams N500m Suit Against Femi Fani-Kayode, Fayose’s Spokesman Over Seized $43m

Minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has filed a N500 million suit against Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation, and Lere Olayinka, spokesman of Ayo Fayose, governor of Ekiti state.The duo had accused Amaechi of owning the $43 million which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) found in a Lagos residence.In separate letters to Fani-Kayode and Olayinka, Lateef Fagbemi, counsel to Amaechi, said the allegations his client were false.Fagbemi said his client has never owned a home in Lagos state, and that the “misleading information” was capable of tarnishing Amaechi’s reputation.“The story as uploaded by you is to our knowledge, blatantly false, malicious and is aimed at impeaching the credit of our client, a two-time speaker of the Rivers state of house of assembly, a two-time governor of Rivers state and current minister of the federation,” read a letter sent to both men.“Our client neither owns the house where the cash was found and your story and claim are unfounded.”Amaechi’s counsel said the publication constitutes a libel and is defamatory “aimed at impinging our client’s character and credit in the eyes of Nigerians and foreigners.”
